Milo Lines:
Hey, everybody. Welcome back out to Superstition Mountain. Milo here, along with Henry, and we’re continuing the theme of athletics and how the different sports relate to golf. Not all sports are exactly like golf. We’re going to start today with a little soccer. Now. Does soccer and golf have anything in common?

Henry Fall:
A little bit.

Milo Lines:
We’ll stay tuned and we’re going to show you.

Henry Fall:
Find out.

Milo Lines:
Go get it.

Milo Lines:
Okay. So Henry-

Henry Fall:
My bruh.

Milo Lines:
… soccer and golf. Now there’s a lot to soccer, a lot of running, a lot of changing directions, but today I want to focus on just kicking the ball kind of hard. So if I’m looking to kick it way downfield or to get past the goalie, what are some of the principles I have to do with my body? So like, if I was kicking a corner kick or a penalty kick, you see the player starts back here behind the ball, and they get a running start, and they’ll plant this foot like this, and then they’ll kick that ball. Do they kick with just their leg like this? Or do they actually-

Henry Fall:
I mean, if they’re really sending one downfield, you see a lot more engaged with their torso or core.

Milo Lines:
So I’m going to make a kick with no ball there. So they’d actually plant and kick like this, right? And so you can see I’m pushing with this leg into the ground. My chest is going back. And so it’s creating kind of that straight line look from my left leg up through my chest. Hmm. What other sports does that remind me of?

Henry Fall:
Well, we’ve talked a little bit about this with golf, and the-

Milo Lines:
Yeah. So a golfer, straight line up through my length, from that ankle up through my body. Baseball players, straight line from that ankle up through my body. Soccer players, straight line from that up through my body. Huh.

Henry Fall:
Yep. And even this knee, when they plant, this knee kind of starts almost going external first, and then it pushes back, it pokes up sort of as they kick.

Milo Lines:
Yeah. So they’re driving that leg with more than just the leg. They’re actually using ground force and core, to make that leg go fast, right?

Henry Fall:
Right. So just like you see in a golf swing, if you were to kind of just pick your left heel up and plant as you transition here, then you push back away, that’s how they get the club squaring up and going to the target versus this or that.

Milo Lines:
Exactly. So it’s more of a swinging motion, and kicking is actually a swinging of the leg. Beautiful. So it’s-

Henry Fall:
All right. I got to send one. I don’t know how far I can kick… I’m going to kick-

Milo Lines:
Oh, you’re going to kick it down range. Let’s see if you can go a hundred yards. Let’s see what you got.

Henry Fall:
Oh my God.

Milo Lines:
Oh, you’re a terrible soccer player.

Henry Fall:
I shanked it.

Milo Lines:
Can I stop the video?

Henry Fall:
Redo.

Milo Lines:
Give me a good kick. Oh, that’s not how you kick. You used your toe.

Henry Fall:
I’m not supposed to use my toe?

Milo Lines:
No, soccer players kick with the side of their foot.

Henry Fall:
Oh. I suck at soccer.

Milo Lines:
So do I. I wouldn’t kick one on camera. So if you guys like this video, subscribe to this channel, we have lots of good content, lots more coming out, and visit me at milolinesgolf.com, where Henry and I have a really awesome website. We’ll teach you how to swing like an athlete.
